So You Want to Be a Rock & Roll Star

 (From the April 7th Newsletter)

I was in high school when The Byrds released one of my all-time favorite songs. I think it's the best in a long line of them over subsequent decades with a similar theme--this is not as easy as it looks, and it ain't all it's cracked up to be. (My interpretation--there are others, of course.)

So, what does this have to do with me? Well, I was hiking in the woods the other day. I was wrestling with my decision (see my Feb 18th blog post) of what to write next. I was fretting over my long-range marketing plan. I was asking myself, John, are you in over your head? And this song popped into my mind.
The answer to my question was an immediate yes! But then I thought about it. The guys in that band worked really hard at what they loved and ended up with pretty amazing careers. And I remember David Crosby saying in an interview one time that he didn't regret any of it. So, I guess I'm okay.

Besides, my pants are tight. It's gonna be all right.

Progress notes:
This morning I crossed the 69k word mark on the first draft of Halves and Half Nots, Spaceship Huey Adventures #3. Target is 85-95k by June 1st. Sometime next month, I'll be sending out calls for beta readers. If you're interested--and you haven't already joined my ARC team--you can sign up for my newsletter and fill out my ARC Team Survey to join.

Featured Recommendation:
Here's another book I've read for my epic fantasy research. I found it hard to put down. Warning: it's a romance, but not sickening.

The Last Dragon King
by Leia Stone
(Click on the cover image to view on Amazon)

The Dragon King is looking for a wife.
The news throws the women in my village into a tizzy The king will be sending out the royal guard to bring women of childbearing age to his castle in Jade City.
There is only one requirement: the woman must carry enough magic to produce an heir for him.
I'm a watered-down human with a mere ten percent dragon magic lineage. I know I won't be chosen, but for some reason the magic sniffers command me to present myself to the king as a possible wife.
I'm ready to go to Jade City until my mother tells me a terrifying secret. A secret that could get me killed ... by the king himself.
This is a full length fantasy romance standalone with an HEA!
